Platte County Ministerial Association and Cinema West helping out community

WHEATLAND - Starting in November 2022, the local Ministerial Association in concert with Curtis Hofrock and Heather Weber-Ferguson of Cinema West Theater, began a community challenge of collecting a goal of 5 pounds of dollar bills in three months. At the end of January 2023, the total raised was one and one-half pounds of dollar bills, equaling $431.00!

Shelley Marker and Terry Archbold would like to extend massive gratitude to Curtis and Heather, as well as the patrons of Cinema West, for their help in raising awareness for their cause. PCMA is a conglomeration of churches united with the simple goal of serving the community.

The multifaceted group extends an invitation to anyone interested in getting involved; meeting the first Thursday of every month at 8 o’clock in the morning.

Their outreach includes sponsoring a family-oriented movie open to the public the last Tuesday of every month at Cinema West. February’s film will be “Let There Be Light,”  a 2017 American Christian drama directed by and starring Kevin Sorbo about a man who goes through a near-death experience in an auto accident and struggles to find his faith.

Other events hosted by the PCMA comprise covering the costs of baccalaureate services and a special dinner for graduating high school students, including home-schooled seniors.

The Community Christmas Dinner for those who need a hot, delicious meal delivered for the holidays is an important part of their county wide offerings.

The Food 4 Weekends Pantry helps needy families get food for them and their children. Enrollment forms for the program are found at every school in the county, and if anyone needs help, the Pantry is open every Wednesday from 5-6 at 1150 Pine St. in Wheatland. Many churches have pantry offerings around the community, no one needs to be hungry!

Finally, the FREE community event at the Wheatland Fire Station with Cinema West, Lifechoice Pregnancy Care Center, and PCMA, had to be rescheduled.  Due to weather concerns, the event is now March 25 at 5 p.m., churches will provide a free mac and cheese meal. Tour the mobile ultrasound unit, and attend the FREE Lifemark Movie at 6:30, sponsored by the Ministerial Association and anonymous donors.
