New Mayor and councilman take seats

Posted

WHEATLAND - According to  the By-laws of the Town of Wheatland, if something happens to the sitting Mayor during his term that prohibits him from serving, then one of the four Councilmen is appointed Interim Mayor until either someone is appointed to be Mayor or there is a General Election.
When Mayor Joe Fabian died, Councilman Alan Madsen was appointed as Interim Mayor. Since sitting Councilman Brandon Graves was elected to be the new Mayor in the last election, it made sense to appoint him as Interim Mayor for the last month of the year and appointing Jamie Schindler to the vacated Councilman seat since he was elected  last Novemb er as well. Both men were sworn in at the Town of Wheatland meeting on Monday night and the meeting progessed as usual.  However, the official ceremony will still take place at the next Town meeting on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. The public is invited.
When asked about what he wanted to focus on first in his term of office, Mayor Graves had this to say, “I want to make sure we operate within our budget and to master the servics we provide. When someone flips a light switch, the light should come on. The tax-payer dollars need to take care of those needs first, before funds are spent on other things.”
Town of Wheatland meetings are normally held the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of City Hall located at 600 9th Street in Wheatland.
