Myrtle Hope Smith

Myrtle Hope Smith was born on April 12, 1940, in Brainerd, Minn. to George Mathew and Eva Katherine (Mungall) Chase. She made her journey to Heaven on Sunday, Nov. 10, with her loving family by her side. She was 79.
Funeral services were held Nov. 16 in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Thurman officiating. Interment followed in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Myrtle attended school in Guernsey. At the young age of 15, she married Fredrick Leroy Smith on Nov. 11, 1955, in Scottsbluff, Neb. To this union, four children - Linda, Fredrick III, Katherine and Michael - were born.  
She claimed her favorite job was as the cashier/clerk for Liberal, Kan. schools which she enjoyed for 15 years. She loved to read romance novels and westerns. She was always expanding her knowledge of the computer. Because she was very social, she enjoyed participating in a bowling league and coffee clubs. She dearly loved her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Myrtle is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Fred; children: Linda (Mark) Virant of Wheatland, Katherine (Carey) Shorter of Duncan, Okla., Michael Smith of Comanche, Okla.; grandchildren: Lacey (James) Bruckner, Mandy (Brett) Binning, Jeffery McGuire, Chylie Lehto, Levi Filter, Shilo Smith, Frankie Smith; and great grandchildren: Rylie Bruckner, Ali Bruckner, Stetson Shorter.  
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Fredrick Leroy Smith III; and grandson, Tanner Shorter.
Serving as pallbearers will be Carey Shorter, Mark Virant, Jeff McGuire, Steve Earnhart, John Johnson, and David Johnson Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Michael Smith.
