NEWCASTLE – On Dec. 2, the Wheatland Middle School girls’ ‘A’ and ‘B’ seventh grade basketball team traveled to Newcastle to compete in the conference tournament.
Both teams made their way to the championship games for their division.
The WMS ‘A’ team finished as the runner-up, beating Buffalo 28-21, followed by a loss to host Newcastle 46-22 in the Championship round. The ‘B’ team beat out Newcastle in the semi-finals, and then went on to take a win over Buffalo 24-6 to earn the championship for their division.
The A team has a season record of 10-3, and the B team has a record of 10-2.
The roster for the team is as follows: Miley Benson, Brinley Heimsoth, Alley Gunter, Katie Klein, Riley Davis, Grace Battershell, Allie VanWhy, Kendall Schaffner, Kyra Nash, Chelsea Martinez, Savannah Metz, Hadley Paisley, Jayden McDaniel, Jaylyn McMahon, Cody Dooley, Jadea Graves, and Shayne Eagleton. The teams are coached by Georgann Martinez and Steve Pollock.
