Hola de Panama

This week has been pretty slow for ministry. We are staying on the YWAM base with a group of teens from around the region. We have been teaching Bible and English classes as well as being taught Spanish in return. I try to give Spanish my best shot but I still get laughed at for the attempt.
It’s a good thing laughter is a common language because sometimes that’s what a whole conversation consists of.
It’s been really great living in community with these group s of kids. Being shy seemed like the ongoing trend when we arrived so it’s really cool to see them slowly come out of their shells,  sharing their stories and interacting with us.
A few days ago a mother of five children stopped by asking for prayer. She fought back tears as my teammates surrounded her and poured prayer over her. One of my favorite things is watching people I love, love others.
If you would like to pray for her, these are the things she asked prayer for:
Post-partum depression

Lies in her head
Body aches/head aches
Speaking of prayer our host is in contact with a YWAM base in Nicaragua that are desperately asking for prayers for peace over the country and safety. The Lord definitely showed my squad protection when He re-routed us to Panama as it sounds like Nicaragua is a pretty dangerous place to be right now. If you don’t know what is going on there please research it and stay informed!
Thanks for keeping up with me!

He was supposed to die

The small house was simple, but in better shape then many houses up there. A girl came  to the door and we realized we had met her before as her dad was the teacher for the Discipleship Training classes. She was joined by her 5 year old sister, and her older brother. Behind all these kids I noticed a tiny face trying to peer out. The boy was so small he could have easily hidden in the shadows of the other children and been overlooked.

Meet M.
I guessed his age to be about 3 or 4 years old, maybe weighing 25 lbs. We were informed that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer during the time she was pregnant with him. She gave birth to him and ended up passing away a few months later. The doctors said the baby would never walk or talk, much less live very long. His aunt took him in as her own and nursed him along. She told me that he was 6 years old!
He was small but had the heart of a fighter. When he warmed up to us it was obvious that he craved attention. He loved playing peek-a-boo, blowing kisses and taking selfies. Once he finally let us hold him he stuck on our hip like a tick on a dog!
When I heard his story I instantly thought “Wow, God has some big plans for this little boy!”
Even with that thought I was a little mad. Why would God start this fragile boy’s life off on a foot of sorrow? His life was already going to be a little harder as he was delayed in growth and development.
I was reminded that he was a miracle baby and people were one day going to be impacted by his story. Already at 6 years old, his story was impacting my heart. This story could have a different ending of a child that didn’t survive or wasn’t wanted. But the Lord gave him life. He allowed M. to defy the odds, a family that loves him and is teaching him about Jesus. God was taking care of M. and in that simple moment it was a good reminder that He doesn’t overlook any one.
He has a specific plan for each one of us. Even the smallest children hidden away in a village on top of a mountain.
