Lobo varsity battles strong at Sturgis; prep team fights

STURGIS, S.D. — Legion Post 10 varsity traveled to South Dakota on Friday for the Sturgis Tournament, posting a 1-2 record.
The Lobos faced Sturgis Post 33 Titans on Saturday morning, taking a 0-8 loss. The Lobos battled close with the Titans as the game was scoreless for the first two innings. After the struggle in the third inning, they kept the Titans from scoring in the fourth and only allowed one run in the fifth.  
The Lobos claimed the win against Winner/Colome Royals varsity 10-2 with starter Joel Anderson. Their scoring success began with three runs in the third inning and finished strong with four runs in the fifth inning. Ned Hageman contributed with four RBIs.
Sunday, the Lobos closely matched the Black Hills Bombers, though taking a 0-1 loss. Starter Hageman surrendered no walks, striking out six in his six innings. Luke Anderson, John Sarad, Hageman and Cross Hernandez contributed the five hits the Lobos claimed.

Wednesday, the Lobo varsity team will travel to Cheyenne for a doubleheader against the Cheyenne Hawks. Friday and Saturday, the Lobos will host the Rapid City Bombers for four games at the Legion Field.

The Lobo prep team traveled to Laramie on Wednesday for a doubleheader where they recorded a 3-19 loss for the first game. The Lobos came back battling for the second game though they were unable to bring in needed runs during the last inning, losing 5-8. Starting pitcher Preuit secured six strikeouts during first four innings with closer Copelin Vineyard adding two more.
Friday, the Lobo prep team hosted the Cheyenne Indians for a doubleheader. The Lobos recorded a 0-9 loss for the first game. Starting pitcher Ryland Petroski only allowed five hits in his five innings with closing pitcher Jordan McDaniel only allowing one additional. Lobos struggled getting their bats on Indians pitcher Colgan.
Taking the 5-12 loss for the second game, starting pitcher Langdon Goodrich only allowed six hits in five innings as Jake Hicks closed out the game in the sixth inning. Petroski aided with four unassisted defensive plays at second. The Lobos began a strong rally in the third inning, scoring four runs, but were unable to battle back against the Indians’ strong relief pitchers and closer.
Wednesday, the Lobo prep team will host Laramie at the Legion Field then travel to Scottsbluff on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the WESTCO Tournament.
