CHEYENNE – The Wheatland Lobo season came to a close on Tuesday, July 27 with an 11-1 loss to the Cody Cubs – the eventual state champions.

During their stay at the Wyoming ‘A’ State Baseball Tournament, the Lobos went 2-2.

After opening the season-ending event with a 10-0 win over Lovell and an 11-1 loss to Cheyenne on Saturday and Sunday, the Lobos found themselves in a must-win situation against conference foe Torrington.

Wheatland grabbed an early 3-0 lead heading to the bottom of the second before the Tigers mounted a comeback.

Torrington got a run across in the second but took a 5-3 lead on four runs in the third.

In the top of the fourth, Jake Hicks singled, driving in Cross Hernandez to trim the deficit to one run.

Torrington kept Wheatland at bay until the top of the sixth when Mytchell Pollock hit into a sacrifice fly, tying the game at five.

Wheatland capped off the win with five runs in the top of the seventh.

JP Anderson’s single scored Ryland Petroski to put the Lobos in front for good.

Anderson and Adam Suko later scored on Hicks' triple, and Hicks scored on an RBI single from Pollock.

Wheatland retired Torrington in order in the seventh to advance in the state tournament.

Hicks went 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs and two runs scored. Anderson went 2-for-3 at the plate. Pollock picked up the win  in relief of Anderson. Pollock struck out six over 4 1/3 innings.
