The family moved from Kansas City to Excelsior Springs where Larry graduated from high school. After a year in college, Larry joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base and FE Warren Air Force Base. He was honorably discharged in 1989.
Larry married Becky Fletcher in 1975 and three children were born to that union: Justin Fletcher, Joshua Fletcher, and Jeremy Fletcher. He had a part-time business following the footsteps of his dad and grandpa in the auto upholstery field. He developed his love of farming by spending part of summers helping on the Fletcher farm in Gallatin, Missouri.
As a result of his marriage to Barb, a small dynasty was formed. There are 27 grandchildren: Stevie (Joe) Marquez, Corinda (Cody) Frick, Lance (Samantha) Sanderson, Andrew Blumer, Joshua (Cinnamon) Eslick, Kevin (Eslick), Baylor (Amber) Eslick, Ty (Cashlin) Anderson, Alexandria, Brianna Woods, Kayla Penick, Emily Penick, Elyse Penick, Konnor Penick, Dusty (Zach) Taylor, Mariah Rainwater, Madison Rainwater, Abigail Fletcher, Andrew Fletcher, John Gaelan Fletcher.
