WHEATLAND – Larry Bacon, 77, of Wheatland, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, after an extended illness.
He was born in Niles, Kan., the son of John Franklin Bacon and Leone Isabell (Lantz) Bacon. In 1944, his family moved to the Buckhorn outside of Loveland, Colo., where they owned and operated Bacon Orchards, producing cherries and apples. He was the youngest of four children, including brothers, Jim and John, and sister, Patsy Bacon Hansen.
Larry married Carla Clymer in 1960 and to this marriage two children were born, Barbara Sue and Edward Curtis. He and Carla were later divorced. In 1976, he moved with his family to the Bordeaux area south of Wheatland. In 1989 he met and married Diane Byrne and was the step-father to Julie Louise and Kathleen Anne.
Larry graduated from Loveland High School and attended Colorado State University for two years. Larry worked as a welder/mechanic for 13 years at Great Western Sugar Company in Johnstown, Colo., before moving to Wyoming to farm and ranch outside of Wheatland.
The agriculture industry was his passion and at one time he served as president of the Wyoming Beef Cattle Improvement Association and vice-president of the Wyoming Simmental Association. Larry was very proud of the Simmental cattle he raised and the advancements in the genetics of his herd. Farming was secondary for him, but he was very excited to be able to put a circle sprinkler on the place and always wondered why he hadn’t done it years earlier.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Bacon; and grandson, Shell Richardson.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; daughter, Barbara (Brant) Richardson of Paisley, Ore.; son, Ed Bacon (Brenda) of Yerington, Nev.; step-daughters, Julie (Scott) Davis of Cheyenne and Kate (Aaron) Foster of Lander. Larry also had five grandchildren, Britton Maston, Jordan (Francisco) Pulido, Josie (Tucker) Hoatson, Case Bacon and Amanda Bacon, and great-granddaughter, Aliya Hoatson.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel in Wheatland.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of the arrangements.
