The Lady Vikings were downed twice over the weekend at the hands of Rock River and Hulett. On Friday, the Lady Longhorns came to Guernsey and prevailed 48-25 and Hulett claimed a 56-34 win Saturday in the Lady Devils’ gym.

Lady Vikings suffer two weekend losses

GUERNSEY — The Lady Vikings were downed twice over the weekend at the hands of Rock River and Hulett.  On Friday, the Lady Longhorns came to Guernsey and prevailed 48-25 and Hulett claimed a 56-34 win Saturday in the Lady Devils’ gym. 

Stats for the Rock River game were not available at press time.

On Saturday, the Lady Vikes did a good job of spreading the points around. Junior forward Trinity Ayers led with nine points, seven rebounds and three steals. 

Junior forwards Whitney Martin and Kacey McCoid each put in eight points.  Martin took down six rebounds and grabbed four steals.  McCoid finished with eight points and had three rebounds and two steals.

Junior guard Krista Malcom added five points, seven rebounds and three steals. 

Junior guard Blake Rose pitched in four points and had one rebound and two steals.

Senior guard Lakin Reichert had six rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Junior forward Bailey Martin finished with four rebounds.

As a team, they shot 14 of 45 from two-point range and one of 13 from the arc.  They made three of 10 free-throws, and took down 33 rebounds, and had 20 steals and two assists.  They committed 23 turnovers and 16 fouls. 

The losses take the Lady Vikes’ overall season record to 2-16 with just two weekends remaining before the regional tournament in Douglas.  This Friday, they will make the road trip to Harrison, Neb. to take on the Lady Warriors in a varsity-only contest. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. On the 16th, they’ll play their final home game when they host Hanna-Elk Mountain. They’ll wrap up the regular season on the 17th at Rock River. The regional tournament will be held in Douglas Feb. 22-24 and the state tourney will follow in Capser March 1-3.
