Lady Bulldogs split weekend games

WHEATLAND – Led by three scorers in double-figures, the Wheatland Lady Bulldogs picked up a 46-31 win Friday over Glenrock, before falling on the road Saturday to Douglas, 75-22.

The Lady Bulldogs built the early lead at home Friday, propelled by Danielle Brow, who was playing through an ankle injury. Despite her injury, she finished the night with 12 points, five boards and six steals. Khayla Otero paced Wheatland with 18 points, while packing her stat line with six steals and two assists. Loren Mann was the final Lady Bulldog in double-digits, racking up 12 points. Due to the Wheatland lead, everyone on the roster got to take the floor.

“All 15 gals played throughout the game to gain valuable playing experience,” coach Sally Nichols said. “It was great for the gals to work together for this victory.”

After the win Friday, Wheatland hit the road to take on the top-ranked team in Douglas, falling in the quadrant matchup 75-22.

“Their size and experience was difficult to match,” Nichols said of Douglas. “The Bulldogs worked hard the entire game, but fell short to the Bearcats’ tenacious press and fast-break attack.”

Brow was the only Lady Bulldog in double-digits, topping the scoring sheet with 13 points and five rebounds. Otero chipped in four points and four boards, while Mann added another three points. Rory Anderson had a big presence on the glass, racking up five rebounds in the loss.

Wheatland now sits at 3-14 on the year, with a 1-4 record against quadrant opponents. They are fourth in the standings, just behind Newcastle (4-11, 1-4). Wheatland returns to the floor Friday in Torrington with the varsity game slated for 5:30 p.m., before hosting Buffalo on Saturday at 5 p.m.
