WHEATLAND – The Wheatland High School Lady Bulldog volleyball team has large numbers out for this year’s team and under new head coach Sally Nichols, they came together in a preseason event that was meant to raise funds for the program, but also gave them a chance to train, bond and have some fun with their team and the community.
The group met early last Saturday morning where Nichols had athletes running, swimming, playing volleyball and pickleball. The intials spell out RSVP which was on the T-shirts that the group had for sale.
The event had people create teams of four to participate with a $60 price tag per team. The T-shirts were sold for $10 apiece. 32 athletes participated in the “RSVP Games.”
A play on RSVP, it is usually sent to let people know you are going to show up for an event. The message was loud and clear that these Lady Bulldogs are going to show up this season in a big way.
The competitions went from 8 a.m. until noon and Nichols said that on short notice and for a first year, she was pleased at how the teams and community turned out. She added that by next year it will be huge.
