DOUGLAS – The Wheatland girls basketball team picked up their first two victories of the 2018-19 season at the Douglas Classic Friday and Saturday to improve to 2-4 on the season.
Wheatland opened tournament play Friday with a 41-22 victory over Big Piney, and snagged a 41-38 over Lovell Saturday morning before eventually falling to Torrington 59-55 in a non-quadrant contest Saturday afternoon.
Against Big Piney, the Bulldogs ran out to a 10-9 lead at the end of the first period and held the Punchers to two second-quarter points to extend out to an 18-11 lead at intermission. Wheatland’s defense continued to harass Big Piney in the second half, holding the Punchers to five points in the third and six in the fourth to grab their first victory of the season.
