WHEATLAND – The Torrington Trailblazer volleyball teams came to Wheatland last Friday night and the Bulldogs were able to pull off team victories in the “C” game, the JV game and the varsity game.

This, for Wheatland was their first conference matches of the season.  All three levels won both Friday and Saturday.  The varsity won 25-18, 25-23, 25-8 and 25-12, losing in only the second game.

“Friday night the Bulldogs took on the Trailblazers at home,” head coach Sally Nichols said. “Our ladies were a little anxious and missed 6 serves in the first set alone, but once they got on track they handled Torrington with scores of 25-8 and 25-12 in sets 3 and 4.  Leading the dawgs on Friday were: Grace Battershell with 28 assists, Kendall Schaffner with 18 digs, and Hadley Paisley with 13 kills and 9 digs.  Anna Matthews and Desirae Iacovetto continued to dominate the net with 4 solo blocks each.

Saturday our gals hit the road to Rawlins and posted 2 hard fought battles for the C and JV teams.”

The varsity match was won in 3 with scores of 25-17, 25-11, and 25-15.

“Once again Battershell led with 24 assists, Schaffner posted 13 kills, 17 digs, and 3 aces, Alley Gunter added 9 digs, Laynie Goerts had 8 digs and up front Matthews led with 6 blocks,” Nichols said.

“We are very proud of all the gals in our program.  They are working hard and it shows how competitive they are by gutting out tough matches at the C and JV level.  Our Varsity continues to move forward and we are gaining momentum getting into conference action.  Homecoming will be a good test for us, we have to maintain focus and keep plugging away one match at a time.”

The girls will take on Glenrock for the homecoming game this Friday afternoon at 5 p.m.
