John R. Slagle, Sr., 82, passed away on Wednesday, July 1 at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas.
John Slagle was born Monday, Jan. 3, 1938, the son of Edward T. and Bertha L. (Stone) Slagle in Cheyenne.
John graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1956 and on July 1, 1956 he joined the Wyoming Air National Guard. He was there for many years as a Flight and Engineer and Aircraft Mechanic. He left the Guard in April, 1973. He retired in April, 1995 from the Wyoming Highway Department.
John loved to work in the yard. He also made pool cues and built and worked on guns, until he was too ill. He met his Bride, Zella M. Wright, in 1969. They were together for fifty years and raised five children.
John is survived by his wife, Zella M. Slagle; sons, John Jr. (Kari), Greg (Elizabeth); daughters, Susan (David) Teresi, and Laurie Buzard; seven grandchildren; three step-granddaughters; one great granddaughter; sisters, Rosemary Jones, Dorothy Bradley, Jeannine Bailey; nine nieces and nephews; and special friend, Warren Lauck.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward T. Slagle on May 23, 1976 and Bertha L. Slagle on Nov. 11, 1998; son, Jeffery Scott Slagle; three brothers-in-law; and nephew, Greg Jones.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland are in charge of the arrangements.
