Janice Leah (Vowers) Wilkerson, 78, passed away on June 1, 2022 at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born on June 1, 1944 in Kimball, Nebraska.
Jan was married to Karl for over 53 years. They shared a home on her family ranch near Chugwater. Her family was her greatest love. She is survived by her children Keith (RaeCe) Wilkerson and Julie (Justin) Gentle; grandchildren Kail Wilkerson, Rory Wilkerson and June Gentle. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Gries and nieces Shari (Rod) Olson and Susan (Jeff) Guilkey.
Jan spent her childhood years in Kimball. After high school, she attended Midland College and also went to the University of Wyoming for a year. Then she moved to Golden, Colorado where she met Karl. Shortly after they married, her father passed away and they moved to the ranch near Chugwater.
In the early years, Jan helped with ranch work and cooking meals for the help. She dedicated many years to raising her children, attending school and community events.
She was one of the founding partners of Chugwater Chili. She was also on the Chugwater Community Center board.
She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Mildred Vowers.
A funeral service will be held on June 15, 2022 at the Chugwater Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m.
Memorials to the Wyoming Children’s Society, 314 East 21st Street, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001 would be appreciated by the family.
