WHEATLAND – The Winter family were in their home Monday night when they heard a loud crash outside.
“It was so loud that the crash was heard two blocks away,” said Lincoln Winter.
The crash occurred Monday, Sept. 26, at 10:30 p.m.
By the time the Winter family dashed out to find out what the noise was, they discovered that their jeep had been hit with enough force to move it backward and into a second vehicle owned by the Winters.
According to three witnesses, including the Winter’s son, Kit, their vehicles were hit by a possibly two-tone dark blue pickup truck. The hit-and-run occurred on Walnut Street near 12th.
“Witnesses described a dark (possibly two-toned) pickup truck with rear seats, likely made after 2010, with a front grill protector,” Lincoln Winter said. “There was substantial damage done to both of our vehicles. Two other witnesses only saw the vehicle after the crash and then witnessed it backing up and taking off at a high rate of speed, south on 12 th Street, possibly turning when it got to South Street. At that point, the truck disappeared. It would have damage to the right front fender."
Wheatland police are actively investigating the incident. A reward is offered for information, payable on recovery of damages. Persons with information should contact the Wheatland Police Department at 307-322-2141.
