ROCK RIVER — The Albany County Historic Society sponsors a presentation June 10 by Jay Harman at the Rock River School Auditorium beginning at 2 p.m. A number of families who live in Wheatland have connections to Garrett, where Harman’s great-grandfather homesteaded back around 1900.
The presentation will share the rich history of some of the early settlers of north Albany County. Six of Harman’s ancestors homesteaded in this part of Wyoming. Some of them arrived as early as 1891.
Harman’s discovery of his great-grandfather’s old manuscript about four years ago was just the beginning.

Harman’s grandmother was born on the William Cameron homestead near Marshall in 1904, and his great-grandmother died during a winter blizzard on the Cow Creek homestead in 1909.
After conducting additional research and connecting with some of the local descendants, things got even more interesting. Harman said that it’s been like going back in time and the stories from the early days are incredible.
Another goal of the presentation is to have some of the other descendants of the very early north Albany County ranch families join in the presentation and share a few “old time” stories. Anyone who has old photographs or some good stories from the early years that are typed up is encouraged to bring them to share.
There will be an intermission with refreshments halfway through the event.
