WHEATLAND - High Plains Thunder wrestling club competed in the WAWA Kids State tournament in April. The state tournament is comprised of three days and three different style s of wrestling-folkstyle, freestyle and Greco. It is held in Casper, Wy at the events center. HPT had 31 wrestlers enter the folkstyle state tournament, 17 in freestyle and 10 in Greco.

To say that HPT wrestlers showed up ready to wrestle at the state tournament is an understatement. HPT had multiple state placers and champions including not one but TWO triple-crown winners in Coy Robertson and Sawyer Adams. Along with all the state placers and champions HPT also captured the top spot as a team in the Freestyle tournament and came in second in the Greco tournament. HPT’s head Official, Autumn Read also won WAWA State official of the year, this award is selected by the WAWA State Board and presented at the tournament.
HPT Wrestling Club experienced record numbers as far as registration and participation in tournaments this year. The club was able to purchase their own tournament clocks and hold the 20th Annual Brady read Memorial tournament in March. The tournament and the clocks were a huge success. All in all HPT had a fantastic season with lots of new faces in the wrestling room, and great dedication from coaches, parents and kids. We as a club couldn’t do any of this without our great sponsors in the community, we would like to give a huge thank you to our great sponsors for helping HPT have another successful season!
