Guernsey-Sunrise volleyball team drops two games

Posted

GUERNSEY – The Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings faced two good teams last week in Lingle-Ft. Laramie at home last Thursday night and Niobrara County High School Friday night.

In their Thursday match, the LFL girls came out swinging from the start and put on an offensive show while holding the Vikings to just 4 points for the set. The second set Guernsey-Sunrise had built some momentum and doubled their offensive output and in the third game, the Lady Vikings were matching up better against the superior LFL team.

The final scores were 25-4, 25-8 and 25-13.

Rylie Thompson led the team in kills with two, Emma Stoneking led the team in blocked shots with one and Thompson led the team in digs with six. Liberty Whitebird ended with two assists while Jordan Atwood led the team with 14 returns.

The Viking scoring was more potent on Friday night, but the girls still lost the match, 25-8, 25-16 and 25-12.

Against the Tigers, Thompson led the team in kills with two and also led with two aces. Stoneking and Thompson each managed a blocked shot apiece while Thompson led in digs with four. Whitebird had three assists while Atwood was credited for 10 returns.

“We had a rough weekend against a couple of tough teams,” said head volleyball coach Mindy Kelley. “We will keep our heads held high as we prepare for Midwest and Rock River this week. These young ladies have been very flexible this week as they have filled in positions they do not have much experience in as we have faced some unexpected challenges.”

The girls will be away Friday night for a 4 p.m. match at Midwest before returning home to play Rock River for their final game of the season Saturday.
