Bars and restaurants resume normal operating hours Jan. 9

CHEYENNE – Wyoming bars and restaurants can resume normal operating hours after a decline in COVID-19 related hospitalizations, Governor Mark Gordon’s office announced Saturday.
New health orders, effective Jan. 9, allow bars and restaurants to serve customers between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Gatherings remain limited to 10 people and face coverings are required in public indoor spaces, consistent with previous orders that are set to expire Jan. 8.

“Thank you to the people of Wyoming who recognized the strain on their hospitals and health care workers and acted accordingly,” Gordon said in a press release. “I also want to express my gratitude to those businesses that adapted to these temporary measures. These have not been easy times for anyone  We are not out of the woods yet, but continued personal safety measures while the vaccine is being distributed will enable our state’s schools and businesses to continue to remain open.”
Wyoming hospitals reached a peak 247 COVID-19 related hospitalizations on Nov. 30, according to the release. As of Jan. 2, 99 Wyomingites are hospitalized due to COVID-19. Locally, Platte County Memorial Hospital is reporting zero COVID-19 related hospitalization.
Platte County has 17 active cases and 290 total confirmed positive cases, according to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH). Statewide, there are 1,369 active cases and 38,440 total confirmed positive cases. The WDH will continue to monitor metrics as the holiday season winds down, the release said. The post-Thanksgiving COVID-19 case surge expected by health officials did not materialize locally, as numbers have been trending downward both in Platte County and Wyoming.
The state and county has recently begun distributing COVID-19 vaccines. New statewide health orders will expire Jan. 25.
