CASPER — Three Glendo students won blue ribbons at the Wyoming Secondary Art Educators Association Art Symposium held April 19-21 at the Casper Events Center, including one student whose piece is now on display at the State Capitol in Cheyenne since being awarded First Lady’s Choice.
The symposium features thousands of pieces of artwork created by ninth- through 12th-grade students across Wyoming, according to wsaea.com.

Margaret Jensen, Glendo and Chugwater K-12 art teacher, reported Glendo students Jessica Miller, Brook Sanborn and Grace Miller won blue ribbons at the symposium. Jessica Miller’s piece, an eagle made entirely of plastic eating utensils, was a First Lady’s Choice selected by Gov. Matt Mead’s first lady, Carol Mead.
Jensen said the first lady chose more than one piece for display at the Capitol, but not many. She said the first lady had an abundance from which to choose.
“I don’t know how many entries,” Jensen said. “The whole place was just full of high school art … The whole state comes together and high school teachers take their best artwork.”
Jensen said she takes high school students from Chugwater and Glendo on a field trip to the symposium every year.
