Glendo discusses budget, blight

Council lacks quorum, takes no action

GLENDO — The Glendo Town Council took no action at its regular meeting April 11 since a quorum was not present, but they discussed some issues and said they would have a special meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday for a budget session.
Only Mayor Susan Juska and Councilor Marit Thomas were present at the regular meeting.
Glendo Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dave Noyce asked the council for an increase of $5,000 in the department’s share of the town budget. Hagen thought the town could afford an increase.
Noyce reported the department responded to 146 incidents last year, which was a 40 percent increase over the last four years. He said the department needs equipment.

In other discussion, the council touched on a couple of ongoing blight issues.
Juska said Eric Jones, the town’s attorney, had reported the owner of an old motel promised to submit an electrical plan to the State Fire Marshal by April 25. Jones had said during the March 7 regular meeting that the owner was ordered by a judge to meet Wyoming code and submit electrical plans to the State Fire Marshal.
Juska said if the motel owner doesn’t submit her plans by the April 25 deadline, the town will have to go back to court and re-condemn the old motel again.
A member of the public asked about another issue, an old trailer in his neighborhood.
Juska reported the trailer’s owner paid some of her fines and has until June 6 to remove the trailer. If that doesn’t happen, Juska said the town will have to go to court again.
“Everybody thinks that we can just jump in and do these things, but when you’re a municipality you have to jump through all the hoops and go through all the laws … it’s not an easy deal to do,” Juska said. “Everybody thinks you can do something overnight and you just can’t.”
