WHEATLAND – George B. (Joe) Merback 85 of Casper died from aggressive acute myeloid leukemia on June 21, 2018.
He was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Wheatland to Fritz and Freda (Grant) Merback. Freda passed away in 1936 and Fritz remarried, Martha Lena Ebert.
After graduating from Wheatland High School, Joe married Deanna Higgins and moved to Casper, where Joe was the assistant manager for Ben Franklin and later K-Mart. The couple
then moved to Leadville,
Colo., where Joe
was the manager of
Ben Franklin. He also
owned and operated a
Firestone Tire store.
Joe and Deanna had one child, son Mitch
Merback. After Joe and
Deanna divorced, he
relocated to Denver,
Colo., and became the
manager of a K-Mart.
Joe married Nancy
Owens who had a
daughter Cynthia. Joe
and Nancy moved to
Casper. Joe worked for
Shellenbarger Chevrolet
and White Mountain
Subaru until 1991, and
then for Teton Homes
until retirement in 1995.
After Joe and Nancy divorced, he married
his grade school
sweetheart, Lynn Artist
Lieuallen, in 1986.
Lynn moved from
Torrington to Casper,
where they have lived
happily for more than
30 years. Joe was a
faithful friend, husband
and a great step-father
to Lynn’s adult children
Diann, Michele,
Mike and Shawn, and
step-grandfather to
their children. Joe took
tremendous loving
care of Lynn after she
lost her sight in 2011.
Joe loved fishing, refinishing furniture,
and helping his family
and friends. His sense of
humor brightened people’s
lives and he was
a blessing to his family.
He will be missed, but
his memories will never
be forgotten.
Joe was preceded in death by mother Freda,
father Fritz, stepmother
Lena, brothers
Rick and Don Merback.
Joe is survived by wife Lynn Artist Merback, 1 / 2 sister

two great-granddaughters,
and four Lieuallen
grandsons, five granddaughters,
and eight
great-grandsons and
five great-granddaughters
and one Owens grandson and one granddaughter.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at Bustards Funeral Home in Casper the middle of August 2018.
