Free food for seniors

Posted

WHEATLAND – Platte, Natrona and Laramie counties have been selected for a community supplemental food for seniors pilot program. Platte was chosen because our population has a large concentration of seniors.
The program is funded by Food Bank of the Rockies, Department of Family Services and Cent$ible Nutrition through UW Extension. Seniors who sign up for the free program receive a box of food along with healthy recipes once a month. Most of the ingredients in the recipes are included in the box. This is a supplemental program and participants are still eligible to continue receiving commodities or any other assistance they may already be receiving. Applications may be picked up at the Platte County Extension office at 57 Antelope Gap Road in Wheatland and need to be returned before the last week of the month.
