WHEATLAND – Frances “Fran” B. Hammeren, 71, passed away on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland surrounded by her family and friends.

Fran Hammeren was born on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1950 in New York City, New York the daughter of Harry and May Alice (Wilson) Brenner.

Fran was reared and educated in Miami, Florida and graduated from high school in 1968. After graduation, she worked in car rental sales until she went into nursing. She moved to California in 1978 and continued her work in the nursing field for fifteen plus years. Fran was forced to medically retire when she was hurt on the job in 1992. Fran liked to keep herself busy working two or three jobs at a time, which included working in the strawberry fields and as an electrician. 

Fran moved right along with her sister, Bobbi’s family, so she could be close to family. She helped in raising her niece, Tiffany. They moved to Oregon, Texas and finally she settled with the family in Chugwater in September of 2007. She helped with the Chugwater Chili Cookoff for many years as well as helping local friends with critter sitting and brandings. The last few years she took pleasure in helping at the Stampede Saloon and Eatery as a bartender, waitress, and even a dishwasher at times. 

Some of her hobbies included gardening and being outdoors. She loved her many cats and dogs that she had over the years. Fran loved horses, especially the Budweiser Clydesdales, which she affectionately called her “kids.” But most of all she loved being around her family and friends who will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her niece, Tiffany Duncan of Chugwater and many other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bobbi Duncan; and brother-in-law, Dean Duncan.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Stampede Saloon and Eatery in Chugwater, with a reception to follow. Burial will take place at a later date.
