Elsie Campbell passed away Sunday, Nov. 19 at Goshen Healthcare Center in Torrington.
Elsie was born Tuesday, July 4 1922, in Madison, Kan. in Greenwood County, the daughter of Franklin Allen Elrod and Elsie (Cunningham) Elrod. She was the fifth of nine children. At the age of fifteen she moved with her family to Medford, Ore. where she met the love of her life. Elsie married William “Bill” LeRoy Campbell on July 27, 1940, in Payette, Idaho. To this union four children were born.
Elsie worked beside her husband in the logging business, driving a logging truck with her children in tow. After they moved to Lander, she worked with her husband in the swap shop and later as a nurses’ aide at the Lander State School. This was a job she found very fulfilling and often talked about with love.
When they retired, the family moved to Winslow, Arkansas, where in the spring of 1976, she made her choice to serve the Lord. Studying the Bible daily was important to her. When she moved to Wheatland, she worked as a CNA at the Platte County Nursing Home for seventeen years. After retiring, she worked for the Services for Seniors, while volunteering at the Adult Daycare and Platte County Nursing Home for several years.
Her greatest joy was her four children and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love of cooking for others and love of sewing and craft work. She will also be recalled for her very positive and happy attitude and smile.
Elsie is preceded in death by her parents; brothers; sisters; and her husband, William “Bill” Campbell, in February of 1979. Also waiting for her are son, Harold T. Campbell; daughter, Virginia Campbell Curby; and seven grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Howard (Verna) Campbell or Oracle, Ariz.; daughter, Nancy (Ed) Cox of Wheatland along with her brother-in-law, Robert Campbell of Emmett, Idaho. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 39 great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great granddaughter along with numerous nieces, nephews, and others who fondly called her “Grandma GG” with the family.
Elsie asked that any memorial contributions be made to a foundation of your choice.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland and Hudson Funeral Home of Lander are in charge of the arrangements.
