Duo wins both People’s and Judge’s choice at annual salsa contest

WHEATLAND – Rick Kumpf and Brian Wilhelm won People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice at the Salsa Contest sponsored by Simply Creative, Landmark Bar and First State Bank.
The event is held during the Green Harvest Festival and downtown was blocked off so attendees could wander the streets for the different booths and events. Additional Salsa Contest awards went to Anna Gray and the Terry Nash family who won second and third place respectively in People’s Choice. Laura Velesquez won Best Decorated Table and second place Judge’s Choice. Chokecherry margaritas and Mexican beer was served. Next year will offer a  championship round.
The Pet Parade was held early Saturday morning. It began at Frontier Furniture and ended at the Library with prizes handed out to all the participants. Tours were held of local gardens on Thursday and on Saturday of recently renovated buildings downtown. Maue Music Studio owners, Kaylah and Andrew Maue, performed at the Pocket Park in the evening. Several vendors and organizations set up booths along the streets. Dj Magik was on hand and played lively music for the festival.
