Downtown bakery moves uptown

Posted

WHEATLAND – The little corner bakery at the corner of Gilchrist and Ninth Street has outgrown its digs and is moving uptown. Feb. 14 was their last day and they offered “Buy one pizza, get one free” to use up more ingredients to make the move a little easier.
Tj  Pizzaria and Bakeshop is moving into the Vimbos building on 16th Street and is taking up the Vimbos Bar and Grill name, but still keeping all the wonderful menu items that the community has come to know and love.
“We’re moving over there because of the bigger space and parking lot, we’re really excited,” explained Teddy Sarad, co-owner of the bakery with his wife Johanna. “We will be able to offer more seating and a larger menu. We will be hiring more staff and be open seven days a week.”

The Sarads have big plans for the new location. Expanding their menu to include burgers and steaks, with a pizza buffet at lunch time, Asian buffet on Thursdays, seafood buffet on Friday and Saturday evenings and a Sunday brunch buffet.
But with any change comes some sadness too.
“I’m going to miss how quaint this place is,” said long-time employee Haiden Moody. “Coming in early in the morning, opening the doors, flipping that sign around and playing some music, it’s a great feeling.”
The new Vimbos will reopen Tuesday, morning March 5 with breakfast pizza and pastry. Watch their facebook page for updates: www.facebook.com/tjpizzeriaand.bakeshop.
