Funeral services for Dorothy Hanks, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at the Covenant Lutheran Church, 1863 South Street, Wheatland with Pastor Josh Bruns officiating.  Inurnment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery.
Dorothy Jane (Lofing) Hanks, age 79, passed away Thursday, April 11 at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo.
Dorothy was born Saturday, Dec. 30, 1939 in Dayton the daughter of Henry and Mary (Stroman) Lofing. She was raised in Wheatland with her three older brothers, Adam, Raymond, and Robert, where she attended school. After high school, she was a telephone operator and knew everyone’s phone number by memory.
Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Eugene “Short” Hanks, on June 21, 1959. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. They began their married life together at the family sawmill, having three boys, before moving to town in 1965.  She worked along her husband’s side in the Hanks’ Tree Service when it began in 1967.  Dorothy and Short sold the tree service in 1996, and started Hanks’ Countertops, building hundreds of kitchens together in homes and businesses across southeast Wyoming, before retiring in 2010.
Dorothy enjoyed friends and family visits.  She was an excellent seamstress, including crotcheting. Dorothy will be especially missed by her great-grandson, Cameron, who she helped raise.  During Cameron’s early schooling, she thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in all activities and associating with the other parents.  Cameron enjoyed her baking the most. Dorothy brought up three generations of boys.
She is survived her three sons:  Jerry (Linda) Hanks of Brigham City, Utah, Tim Hanks of Wheatland, and John (Suzi) Hanks of Hitchcock, Texas; grandson, Dustin Hanks of Texas; great grandsons, Cameron Hanks of Wheatland and Dylan Hanks of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law, Arnold “Tuff” (Faye) Hanks of Wheatland; and sister-in-law, Marilyn (Roger) Garrett of Garrett. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Short, on Sept. 10, 2018 and her three brothers.
Serving as urn bearer will be Cameron Hanks.
