Darlene June (Heatherington) Hoffman, 93, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Platte County Legacy Home in Wheatland.
Darlene was born on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 1927 in Jennings, Kan. the eldest daughter of Edwin Clarence and Geraldine Iris (Woodard) Heatherington.  She has a beloved sister, Jewell Lee Withrow.
The family moved to Wyoming in 1932.  Darlene graduated from high school in Shoshone, Wyoming.
Darlene married Harold Albert Hoffman on Aug. 31, 1947 and to this union three children were born, Kay Hoffman Shifflett, Janet Hoffman Kahler, and Larry Hoffman.
Harold and Darlene ranched and raised cattle in the Wheatland area for 50 years.  
Darlene was a pillar of strength and faith for her family.  She loved to cook, gardening, and working in her flower beds. She enjoyed playing cards and golfing along with attending the United Methodist Church.
After Harold passed, Darlene was fortunate to find her high school sweetheart, Gayle Currah again. She and Gayle traveled, went snowmobiling, golfing, and went to as many University of Wyoming football games as possible.  Attending lots of Masonic Lodge meetings and ceremonies, countless dances, and fiddle contests. He was lovingly known as “Grandpa Gayle” to the family.
She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother “G.G.”.  By those that loved her most she will be remembered for standing in the yard working in her flowers and her saying “bye, bye for now.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hoffman on Nov. 15, 1994; son, Larry Hoffman on Sept. 14, 1991; daughter, Janet Kahler on March 28, 2012; and special friend of 23 years, Gayle Currah.
She is survived by her daughter, Kay (David) Shifflett of Pecos, Texas; granddaughter, Laura (Chris) Parnell; great grandsons, Michael and Daniel Parnell of Missouri City, Texas; grandson Sam (Susan) Shifflett; granddaughter, Joy and Zoella Shifflett of Mission Viejo, Calif.; son-in-law, Gary Kahler of Wheatland; grandson, Rod Kahler; great grandchildren, Emily and Riley Kahler all of Cheyenne; Brian Kahler (Kari Cobb); great grandchildren, Reece and Reed Cobb Kahler all of Cheyenne; sister, Jewell Lee Withrow of La Porte, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at a later date.
A memorial to the United Methodist Church, 907 9th Street, Wheatland, WY 82201 would be appreciated by the family.
