Dance Wyoming hosts annual Spring Fling

Posted

WHEATLAND - Dance Wyoming recently hosted its 17th annual Spring Fling where dancers from age three and up performed a variety of pieces based on the 1986 fantasy film Labyrinth, directed by Jim Henson with George Lucas as Executive director.  Ton Winter produced the theme, together with the studio’s other teachers, Jessica Schreiner, Amie Dziowgo, Melody Morford, Josephine Young, Mira Taylor, Summer Whelchel and Molly Cundall.

A highlight of the performance was the announcement of the Dance Spirit of the Year Award, and scholarships in memory of Joe Fabian.  Ten-year old dancers, Aubree Troupe of Hartville, and Halle Taylor of Wheatland received the 2023 Dance Spirit of the Year Award.  The students were nominated by their teachers for representing a good attitude, commitment, an eagerness to help with literally anything, supporting their classmates, and an overall spirit of happiness and positivity.  Sheva Dubois, last year’s recipient, presented the awards.

Two 2023 graduates from Wheatland High School, Kit Winter and Sami Strahan, each received the Joe Fabian Memorial Dance Scholarship.  Both Kit and Sami have danced with the studio for more than ten years, and both will be attending the University of Wyoming majoring in Theatre and Dance.

The newly renovated high school auditorium was packed with two performances.  Attendees were very generous in donating to the purchase of new ballet barres for the studio.  Studio manager, Mira Taylor, said “We were so humbled by the support of everyone who attended the Spring Fling.”   For details about summer and fall classes visit Dance Wyoming on Facebook, or its website.
