CRMC nationally recognized for treatment of heart attack patients

For the Record-Times

CHEYENNE — For the third consecutive year, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has received the American College of Cardiology’s Platinum Performance Achievement Award. CRMC is one of only 193 hospitals nationwide to receive the Platinum-level award for 2017.
To receive the Platinum Award, CRMC has demonstrated sustained achievement in the American College of Cardiology’s ACTION Registry for eight consecutive quarters and has performed at the top level of standards for specific performance measures.
The ACTION Registry empowers participating hospitals to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines and establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary artery disease, specifically high-risk heart attack patients.
“This award is tangible evidence of our cardiac team’s hard work and commitment to delivering the highest quality cardiovascular care to our community and region,” said cardiologist Muhammad Khan, MD, CRMC’s medical director of cardiovascular care. “It further reflects the extent to which our physicians, clinicians, nurses and the entire cardiac team are focused on providing heart attack care that saves lives.”
The Platinum Performance award recognizes CRMC’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that CRMC has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
Moving forward, CRMC plans to continue its participation in the ACTION Registry. “Hospitals that participate in the registry have access to the latest scientific data to drive improvements in the care provided to heart attack patients,” Dr. Khan said. “It’s a vital part of our ongoing quality improvement process.”
This year, CRMC’s cardiology services and coronary interventional procedures were both ranked as being among the top 10 percent of all such services in the nation by Healthgrades, a national hospital quality rating organization.
“The real value of these national quality awards is the assurance they offer to our community and the outlying regions we serve—that at CRMC heart attack patients are treated by a cardiac team that has a proven record of providing outstanding care and outcomes,” Dr. Khan said.
