WHEATLAND — Platte County Chamber of Commerce sponsored a free social media workshop for its members at the Platte Valley Bank Community Room last week.
Tia Troy, public relations and media manager for the Wyoming Office of Tourism, started her presentation with how impressed she was by Wheatland and how it has a great downtown area that could really be a draw for tourists in the state. She then went on to give some impressive statistics. Out-of-state tourists spent a reported $44.2 million in Platte County last year and generated $2.1 million in taxes. The county had 167,000 overnight visitors.
Troy and her team went on to explain the different social media platforms and how best to reach the targeted audience for each business. Also, she stressed how important it is to connect social media efforts with more traditional advertising.
The room was filled with all manner of business representatives from Wheatland Rural Electric Association, Wyoming Pure Beef, Chugwater Stampede restaurant and Shine Computer Services, to name a few. All participants had differing levels of social media abilities. The presenters offered a varied selection of ideas and instruction so that everyone was able to learn and discover new opportunities to expand their business in the social media arena.
“I want to set up a schedule of workshops throughout the year,” said Kit Armour, Chamber executive director. “Applicable stuff that businesses can really use.”
