Bulldogs play final game in Dayton

Posted

DAYTON – The final game of the year for the Bulldogs who had been eliminated from playoff contention in the previous two weeks was in Dayton against a very strong Tongue River High School team.

Tongue River, who had already qualified for the playoffs had its only loss come at the hands of Big Horn. They scored through the air, on the ground and on defense. When the smoke cleared, the Dawgs had lost 41-0 and faced the long four-hour bus ride to begin to look ahead.

For the game, the Eagles amassed 239 total yards of offense to the Bulldogs 82 yards of total offense. It was one of the few times all year that the yardage stats were not in the favor of the Dogs.

“Our final game came down to, too many self-inflicted turnovers,” head coach Cody Bohlander said. “It’s tough to win games when the other team is getting the ball in great scoring position, which is something that has plagued us all season. We did do some things well during the game on both sides of the ball. We were lead defensively by Ryland Petroski who really played well in his last game as a bulldog. It is not the finish we would liked to have had with our senior group, but we are thankful for what Ryland, Maxx, Aric, Drew, JP and Barak have done for us over the years. Our program wishes them the best in their future endeavors. As we look to next year we have a lot of guys coming back to the program and a ton of talent. My hope is that we are over all of our growing pains that seemed to be a big thing for us this year.”

After graduating a major portion of three- and four-year veterans last year, the Bulldogs were rebuilding with seniors in the starting lineup that didn’t have a lot of previous varsity experience.

“We had a lot of guys who didn’t have a ton of varsity experience coming into this season and it showed,” Bohlander said. “I think this year they grew a lot and hopefully we’re over the phase of not being confident on the field and can play some solid football. We have the talent and potential to be really good next year especially with what other teams in the conference are losing. It will really depend on the work the players want to put in this offseason to get better. We will probably make some changes in guys positions as we move to next year to better help the team but the expectation for next year is high. Missing the post season definitely left a bad taste in our mouths and is something we do not want to experience again.”

The Bulldogs end their season with a 2-7 record.
