WHEATLAND – The Wheatland Bulldogs went nine straight possessions with a missed shot and were outscored 13-2 in the third quarter Saturday as they fell to the Douglas Bearcats, 43-34.
Wheatland ran out to an 8-4 lead at the end of the first period and extended to a 24-16 lead at halftime behind 6-of-18 shooting from three-point range.
The Bulldogs went cold in the third period offensively, and hit just 2-of-14 shots from long distance in the final 16 minutes. Douglas grabbed a 29-26 lead at the end of the third and outscored Wheatland 14-8 in the fourth.
Kobey Preuit led the Bulldogs with nine points, eight coming in the second period, while Trigg Peasely had nine points and Zac Gunter had eight. Luke Anderson chipped in five points and Trevor Vaughn added three.
Wheatland ended 4-of-9 from the free-throw line, while Douglas was 8-of-10.
“I felt like we defended really well,” Wheatland coach Mick Cochran said. “We just turned the ball over at crucial times and had a rough night shooting.”
