RAWLINS – The Wheatland Bulldogs wrestling team closed out its regular season Thursday in a home dual against Newcastle/Upton, securing the 40-30 win.
Wyatt Crane (220) and Keedan Boling (285) started off the dual by picking up forfeit wins. At 106 pounds, Keegan Meyer took on Jory McFarland, picking up the pin at the 1:40-mark. Wheatland suffered a forfeit loss at 113 pounds, before Austun Matson (120) was pinned in the first period by Trayton Dawson.
Wyatt Guty got Wheatland back on the winning track with a 16-2 major decision over Kale Corley at 126 pounds. Ethan Read won by forfeit at 132 pounds, before Seth DeWitt (138) kept the winning going with a pin against Gavin Durfee in 25 seconds. 145-pounder Cross Hernandez snagged the final win for Wheatland with a pin over Skylar Jenkins in one minute.
At 152 pounds, Alan Baker pinned Wheatland’s Kye Hicks in the second period, followed by another win for the visitors, with Wyatt Corley pinning Simone Mainetti (160) in the first period. After double-forfeits at 170 and 182, Newcastle/Upton wrapped up the dual with a win. Teigan Marchant pinned Daniel Hutchins in the second period, but it was not enough to make up the difference, giving Wheatland the 40-30 win.
Rawlins 46, Wheatland 16
Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs took the mats in Rawlins, taking on both Rawlins and Thermopolis on Tuesday.
Against the Outlaws, the dual started with a double-forfeit at 106 pounds, before Meyer continued his solid season with a 10-8 decision win over Gerardo Lopez. Guty picked up another win for Wheatland in a 16-1 technical fall over Brayan Ortega, putting the Bulldogs up 8-0.
Noah Whitfield (126) was handed a loss by pin late in the second period against Dakota Bennett. At 132 pounds, Ethan Read went extra time, falling in a 4-2 sudden victory by Gabriel Munoz.
DeWitt picked up a 6-5 decision over Jacob Dworek, followed by another win by Hicks, with him picking up a 23-7 technical fall over Colby Rodriguez, giving Wheatland a 16-9 lead.
The Outlaws closed out the dual on a hot streak, starting with Robert Flores getting a 13-0 major decision over Amundson. Mainetti fell against Tristean Mikesell, before Rawlins got forfeit wins at 170 and 182 pounds.
In the upper weights, Hutchins was pinned by Weston Bezold in the second period. Crane went the distance against Cutter Foster at 220 pounds, but lost the 8-3 decision. Boling was pinned in the first by Domingo Acosta.

The Wheatland wrestlers return to the mat this weekend for the 3A East Regional Tournament in Worland. Action kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
