WHEATLAND – The Wheatland High School wrestling team traveled to Worland Dec. 20 and 21 for the Battle in the Bighorns. On Friday the teams were divided into four pools, Wheatland was in the D pool with Greybull/Riverside, Buffalo, Lander and Rock Springs. Wheatland fell to Lander 36-42, defeated Greybull/Riverside 45-36, fell to Rock Springs 19-54 and defeated Buffalo 46-24 finishing third place in their pool and placing them in the Silver bracket. On Saturday, Wheatland won the first round of duals against the Worland 2 team, 48-30 but fell to Cody 48-30 during the second round. Wheatland defeated Newcastle/Upton 42-36 clinching the third place spot in the Silver Bracket.
After the team duals were complete, the top two individuals in each weight class were chosen for Best of the Best matches determined by their wins in the team duals. Devin Weber at 120 and Seth DeWitt at 160 both earned their spots in the final matches but fell to their opponents.
There was a planned meet on Jan. 4 at Cheyenne South but was cancelled. A home dual against Laramie will be held Jan. 9 at the High School.
