Bulldog boys take sixth

CASPER – The Wheatland Bulldogs boys track team picked up a sixth-place finish Friday at the Natrona Invite in Casper, with five placers.

Roman Smith had a stellar day for the Bulldogs. He picked up a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.07 seconds, which he paired with a fifth-place finish in the 100, clocking a time of 11.85 seconds.

Smith had three teammates join him in the 100, with Simone Mainetti finishing 16th with a time of 12.22 seconds. Colton Caves, with a time of 12.52 seconds (33rd) and Joey Madsen, with a time of 12.70 seconds (42nd), rounded out the Bulldog competitors. Mainetti also competed in the 200, finishing 15th (24.72 seconds).

Rhett Karr rounded out the sprinters by taking 46th in the 400, finishing in 1:07.66. He finished in the same slot in the 800 with a time of 2:55.33.

Also on the track, Dylan Pearson joined the trio of Smith, Madsen and Mainetti for the 400-meter relay, snagging fourth with a time of 46.02 seconds.

Pearson excelled in the field events as well. He picked up the bronze in the high jump, clearing 6 feet. With a 19-foot, 5.25-inch effort in the long jump, the Bulldog finished eighth. Caves also competed in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches to tie for 18th.

Clayton Iacovetto was the top shot putter for the Bulldogs, finishing 20th with a put of 36 feet, 1 inch. He also finished 25th in discus with a throw of 104 feet, 3 inches. Wyatt Crane took 21st in the shot put (36 feet) and 34th in the discus (99 feet, 5 inches), while Decker Anderson finished 37th in the shot (33 feet, 1 inch) and 24th in the disc (106 feet, 6 inches).

The Bulldogs piled up 24 points to finish sixth in the boys team race, edging Wright and Hanna-Elk Mountain, who both had 18 points. Kelly Walsh took the team crown with 181 points, while Natrona County (176.5) and Thunder Basin (139) rounded out the top-three.

The Bulldogs are set to attend an invitational Thursday at Cheyenne South High School.
