Bohlander: Team looks good

TORRINGTON — Bulldogs went to the Southeast Jamboree last weekend for some score-free football, and junior varsity Bulldogs barely lost to Newcastle in Wheatland on Monday night.
Bulldogs head coach Cody Bohlander said Newcastle scored a late touchdown in the last 20 seconds of the game Monday. The JV Bulldogs lost 14-6.
“Overall they played tough,” Bohlander said of the JV team, “but it just didn’t come together for them in the last few seconds.”
The varsity team goes to Newcastle on Friday, with kickoff at 7 p.m.

“We’ve watched some film on Newcastle. We’re studied up for them,” Bohlander said. “That’s always a tough game because of the offense they run … We’re pretty hopeful our big seniors can get the job done for us on Friday.”
Bohlander said the coaching staff has put the team through some tough practices in preparation for game situation football.
“We’re about as game ready as we’re going to get,” he said.
Bohlander said the Southeast Jamboree last weekend was not really a scored event, but more of an opportunity for teams to gain experience. In addition to Wheatland, the jamboree was attended by Torrington, Southeast, Lusk and Burns.
Bohlander said the jamboree went really well for the Bulldogs. He said coaches saw some good things in this year’s team, as well as noted some areas the Bulldogs have room for improvement.
“Overall it was a really good experience for our kids,” Bohlander said of the jamboree.
After Friday’s game at Newcastle, the next games are scheduled for Sept. 4 when junior varsity plays Pine Bluffs here at 4:30 p.m., then Sept. 7 when varsity plays Upton/Sundance here. The next out-of-town game is at Cheyenne East on Sept. 10.
