The Chugwater Town Council filled a vacant council seat with Carol Ash during the council’s regular meeting Feb. 5, according to minutes from the meeting.
Mayor Lisa Redding said there was a seat vacancy because Councilor Kenny Clark resigned last month. Redding suggested the council consider Ash for the position. Ash was voted in unanimously by the council, then took the oath of office and took her seat with the council.
In other matters, council heard from Rick Michon, electrical compliance inspector for the State Fire Marshal’s Office, who reported the Chug-Chug Gas-n-Go is out of compliance with several electrical issues and that there have been ongoing issues with electrical contractors.
Council discussed several citizen complaints about the Chug-Chug fuel pumps not working. A phone number is printed on the building for people to call if there are issues with the pumps.
Redding assigned a committee to monitor the progress of Chug-Chug and asked Ash and David Clough to be on the committee. Alex Cadar will also appoint someone to be on the committee, which will report to Redding and the town attorney.

Next on the agenda was the Chugwater Chili Cook-off, represented by Terri Skiba. The council granted permission to reserve Staats Park on June 16 for the cook-off. The Cook-off Committee will have to rent a dumpster for the event and will not be allowed to put banners on the park concession walls.
The council next heard about the town’s ordinance review. Of 306 ordinances on Chugwater’s books, 135 are still in force and 171 have been repealed. Six ordinances are missing, but they appear to be obsolete. Lee Marfell and Linda Webster will review the active ordinances.
In other business, the Chugwater Town Council:
Approved bills for payment with a $4,000 cap for bills that have not yet come in, such as REA, Xerox and Office Depot.
Discussed citizen complaints about barking dogs on Seventh Street. The town will mail a letter to the dogs’ owners.
Discussed another complaint about a dog tied to the tree at the library. The item was tabled until March while staff further examine the tree and a door seal that was possibly damaged by the dog.
Discussed cleaning needed for heat ducts in the Community Center.
Heard from Dean Webster, who wants to acquire funds for a miniature golf course or a basketball court. CHED pledged about $7,000 for the project, and another $30,000 may be available from a parks and recreation grant.
Discussed a property in town that has roofing material blowing off of it, which is dangerous in the high winds. The town will contact the property owner about correcting the issue.
The next Chugwater Town Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. March 5.
