The Platte County Historical Society will host a program featuring Gail Thompson who will present “A Long Journey to Halleck Creek,” and share stories about how many small homesteads became large ranches here in the American West using the Flying X Ranch as an example. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Platte County Library on Tuesday, January 25th and is open to all.
Gail is a long-time member of the Platte County Historical Society, and one of the original partners of the Flying X Ranch. Her love of local history includes being able to share stories of the families who settled in the area west of Wheatland. You’ll hear names like the famous Harry Yount, one of the original homesteaders and the first “gamekeeper” of Yellowstone National Park. Other names you’ll recognize include Dick and Josephine Padgett, Bessie Dover, Owen McGill, June (Dodge) Akers, and many more. She encourages everyone to attend and share their own stories.
