WHEATLAND — The Carey Jo Memorial Softball Tournament is Friday through Sunday, Aug. 3-5, at the softball fields. Being the tournament’s 10th year, this is the final year of the Carey Jo Memorial Tournament.
The tournament began with 13 teams the first year and is scheduled to have 18 this year. All of the proceeds raised go to Platte County students who are sophomores, juniors, seniors and post graduate students in college. In the last nine years $159,000 has been raised, which has benefited 203 students.

Friday evening, opening ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the Calcutta at 6:15 p.m.
Saturday, ACE Hardware of Wheatland is bringing in chef Jason Morse, of 5280 Culinary LLC, to prepare a pulled pork sandwich meal at the fields from noon to 4 p.m. following the Platte County Fair parade. There will also be a live auction at 6 p.m.
Sunday at 1 p.m. will be the dedication to Carey Jo Thomas and the final games will be announced.
All proceeds from the tournament, including the lunch and auction, will go to the Carey Jo Memorial to benefit the local college students. Come watch and enjoy the games Friday through Sunday.
